- bring cash and coins to cover meals, parking meters and highway tolls (where applicable), some places take ONLY CASH
- allow enough time for bad weather and construction
- dress appropriately for weather changes AND the restaurant
- make sure to get a full tank of gas beforehand
- use a GPS (recommended) or bring a map/printout
- do not overeat at the first destination if going to more than one
- CALL AHEAD and/or check the restaurant's website. Sometimes these locations close or change hours.
- Ask about the wait times. 30 minutes plus is not uncommon
- bring a camera w/good batteries. Share some photos here for others.
- if your going to eat "What Guy ate" review a video or check one of the episode reviews. Sometimes the "Guy ate this" list is not posted.
- decide before hand: your budget and if you will share plates
- a group of up to four is safe, more than that, be prepared to either wait a lot longer or sit at different tables
- understand that the restaurant will most likely be much busier than before their segment aired. This is known as the "before" and the "after" effect.
- most of these restaurants are not a gourmet experience, don't be an ass, it ruins it for everyone else
- if you are bringing a baby and it starts crying, for gods sake take it outside or to the restroom and calm it down, other guests may have traveled a long distance to come there, don't spoil it
- different states have different social values when it comes to dinning, look around the joint
- Tipping: try this scale, nothing less than 10%, 15% for average, 18% for a large crowd, 20% for really great service. If your food was bad, tell the staff/owner don't punish the wait staff.
